Before you start

Have your VIN, the installed map version and a computer ready. You will also need the storage medium specified for the chosen package. If the car has a replacement or retrofitted head unit, confirm the installed system before relying on the VIN result.

Use the system identification checklist if the navigation generation is uncertain. A map update changes road data; it is separate from an infotainment firmware update or region conversion.

1. Confirm the vehicle, system and region

Run the VIN lookup on the homepage. If an update is available, note the returned navigation generation, region and version. Compare the result with the system in the car. Read the displayed coverage if you need a particular country.

If the lookup finds the vehicle but does not offer an update, contact support before downloading files or buying a code. A package for another NTG generation is not a substitute.

2. Download the matching map package

Use the map download link in the supported result. It currently points to the Mercedes-Benz Download Manager for COMAND/Hard-disc navigation. Select the package matching the navigation system and map region in your result. Keep the package's full version label so you can compare it with checkout.

The Mercedes-Benz Download Manager manual explains the package selection and media preparation screens. Its package table identifies the system, market, version, file size, file system and storage requirements. Follow the requirements for the selected row.

3. Prepare the media required by that package

Do not apply one formatting rule to every Mercedes. FAT32, exFAT and NTFS appear in Mercedes map package requirements, and the required media can vary. Use the selected package's instructions to choose the storage medium, available capacity and file system. Let the Download Manager prepare the files as directed.

Formatting erases the selected drive. Save any files you need before preparing it and check which device is selected. Complete the download and copying process before removing the media from the computer.

4. Start the update and enter the PIN when requested

Connect the prepared media to the vehicle as instructed for its system. Follow the prompts on the navigation screen and the owner's manual for your multimedia system. If the vehicle requests an activation code, use a PIN for the same VIN, system, region and map version.

Review those details in “Generate Map PIN” before payment. The code is displayed after payment and generation succeed, and an email confirmation is sent to the address used at checkout. See map PIN order details.

Follow the vehicle's instructions about power, media removal and interruption. Installation time varies with the system and map size. Do not assume that every update can be paused or safely interrupted in the same way.

5. Check the installed version

Wait for the vehicle to confirm completion, then open the map version screen again. Compare the displayed region and version with the package you installed. Check that navigation opens normally and save your order confirmation.
